What is Feldenkrais®?

Feldenkrais® is a method of somatic or body eduation developed by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais.  There are two forms of learning within this mindful movement method.  One is ATM®  and the second is FI®.

ATM®  or Awareness Through Movement® classes are verbally guided lessons that engage the participants (that would be you) in gentle, easy movements.  This method of somatic or body learning can result in a greater sense of awareness in how you move and give you new movement possibilities!

In our busy world we wrestle with things we should do, and often in the process forget that we have the ability to make choices in how we do things.   The lessons are intended to help you understand that ease and pleasure are important choices when we move: Discover what you can learn when you are being good to yourself.  We are able to move and do things in ways that are not  infused with goals and ideals; at once liberating, novel, and possibly a bit perplexing.

What you learn about how your body moves in “ease” is your own learning, not imposed by what movements you “should” do, or how you “ought” to them.  You are an individual and all people move in their own ways.  The Feldenkrais® Method  is very respectful of the dignity and differences in everyone.

These classes are not exercise classes, but rather explorations in learning which may inform and guide you in your everyday lives:  More comfortable walking, easier reaching, improved skiing, and ideally a general sense that YOU are OK with yourself.

The classes are for women and men, young and elderly, athletes, people with injury, chronic pain, those who want to expand the possibilities of movement, and those of you who love trying something unique!

Join me in learning about novel and different ways in which you can move.
